How to install Microsoft Office 2016 on a Chromebook with Crossover 20

Today we are looking at how to install, the desktop version of, Microsoft Office 2016 on a Chromebook with Crossover 20,  Please follow the video/audio guide as a tutorial where we explain the process step by step and use the commands below.

Please note that it is not a cracked version of MS Office.  So you will still require a valid product key.

Please note, that as seen in the video Office was a bit slow, but it is mainly due to the fact that I run it for the first time.  It should be faster in the future.  My Chromebook has an Intel Celeron N3350 CPU so you can keep it in mind when comparing the speed.

We mention in the video, that you can run Crossover for free if you do not want to/or can't afford the license fee.  It is a bit tricky but possible.  So to do this download the trial period of Crossover,  and install it, as seen in the video.  Use Crossover for the free trial period of two weeks.  After your two weeks are finished,  remove your Linux Apps in your system settings (you will lose all your Linux Apps and Linux Folder, in your file manager) and then turn it on again and setup Crossover and Office again.  We know it is not convenient, but it works!

This tutorial will only work on Chromebooks with an Intel or AMD CPU (with Linux Apps Support) and not those with an ARM64 architecture CPU.

Please take note that with the release of Chrome OS 90,  the location of Linux Apps has been changed in the Chromebook’s settings.  Have a look at this tutorial, to see how to turn on Linux apps and then continue with the installation tutorial.

Commands Used:
1) sudo apt install p7zip-full
2) 7z x office.img
