How to install Gimp 2.10.8 on a Chromebook

Today we are looking at how to install Gimp 2.10.8 on a Chromebook.

Since the release of Chrome OS 80, the Linux Apps (Crostini) have been upgraded in Chromebooks, which also means the Linux Applications in the repository have been upgraded as well.

So in this video, we enable Linux Apps on our Chromebook, update the repositories (just of the Linux apps) and then install Gimp its dependencies.  Please follow the video/audio guide and find the commands used below.

Please contact us if you need any assistance.

Please take note that with the release of Chrome OS 90,  the location of Linux Apps has been changed in the Chromebook’s settings.  Have a look at this tutorial, to see how to turn on Linux apps and then continue with the installation tutorial.

Commands Used:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install gimp
