How to install Minecraft Optifine 1.17 on a Chromebook


Today we are looking at how to install Minecraft Optifine 1.17 on a Chromebook.  Please follow the video/audio guide as a tutorial where we explain the process step by step and use the commands below.

This tutorial will only work on Chromebooks with an Intel or AMD CPU (with Linux Apps Support) and not those with an ARM64 architecture CPU.

Please take note that we updated the 4th command, due to backend updates.

Commands Used:
1) sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list sources.list
2) sudo echo deb https://deb.debian.org/debian sid main  | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
3) sudo apt update
4) sudo apt install libcrypt1 -y && sudo apt install openjdk-16-jdk
5) sudo mv sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list
6) sudo apt update
7) wget https://launcher.mojang.com/download/Minecraft.tar.gz
8) tar -xf Minecraft.tar.gz
9) cd minecraft-launcher && ./minecraft-launcher --disable-framerate-limit
10) chmod 755 optifine.jar
11) java -jar optifine.jar
12) sudo apt install menulibre
13) menulibre
13) env MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.2 command
