How to upgrade to Linux Mint 20


Today we are looking at how to upgrade from Linux Mint 19.3 to Linux Mint 20.  For our release videos, and download links look here, Cinnamon, MATE, XFCE.

These commands and tutorials are based on the official Mint upgrade instructions.

Please take note that Linux Mint 19.3 32 bit systems cant be upgraded to Linux Mint 20 or newer anymore.  Only 64 Bit systems are supported.

Instructions:
1) Turn of screen lock and screensaver

2) Apply Updates

3) Create System Snapshot

4) Upgrade
4.1) sudo apt install mintupgrade
4.2) mintupgrade check
4.3) mintupgrade download
4.4) mintupgrade upgrade

5) Downgrade foreign packages
Menu -> Administration -> Software Sources
"Maintenance" tab
click on "Downgrade Foreign Packages".
Select all foreign packages and click "Downgrade

6) Delete foreign packages
Menu -> Administration -> Software Sources
"Maintenance" tab
click on "Remove Foreign Packages"
With the exception of packages, you installed yourself (from 3rd party sources), select all foreign packages, and click "Remove".

7) Reboot your Computer
