How to install MelonDS on a Chromebook - Updated Tutorial


Today we are looking at how to install MelonDS on a Chromebook.  Please follow the video/audio guide as a tutorial where we explain the process step by step and use the commands below.

This tutorial will only work on Chromebooks with an Intel or AMD CPU (with Linux Apps Support) and not those with an ARM64 architecture CPU.

Please take note that controllers or joysticks sadly doesnt work.

Commands Used:
1) sudo apt update
2) sudo apt install libslirp0 libsdl2-2.0-0 libqt5core5a p7zip-full menulibre
3) wget http://melonds.kuribo64.net/downloads/melonDS_0.9.1_linux64.7z
4) 7z x melonDS_0.9.1_linux64.7z
5) chmod 755 melonDS
6) 7z x NDS\ Firmware\ \&\ BIOs.7z 
7) ./melonDS --disable-framerate-limit
8) menulibre

Update: with the release of Chrome OS 96, the Linux container on a Chromebook has been upgraded to a newer version.  This tutorial still works exactly as in the video, but it is no longer needed to apply the setting in Google Chrome as in the beginning of the video.
