Today we are looking at how to upgrade to Linux Mint 19.2 Tina. This is the second point release of Linux Mint 19, which is based on Ubuntu 18.04, which is supported until April 2023. Linux Mint 19.2 is also an optional upgrade so if you are happy with what you have, then you are welcome to keep it as well.
Now to the upgrade, besides from the updates you might have to install on your system, you will download about 350MB of data to upgrade from Linux Mint 19.2 to 19.2.
As seen in the videos, the installation process is quite straight-forward, a person first creates a system snapshot with Timeshift. The reason for this is that if anything goes wrong you can revert back to how it was. Your data should be fine, but if in doubt please make a backup, if you are not doing it already. The next step is, is to turn off your screensaver so that it won't go on during the upgrade process, you can turn it back on afterward. In the official release notes, they also encourage you to update all the Cinnamon spices, desklets, etc which you have installed, if you don't know how just continue to the next step. If afterward, your add-on's looks bad, then you can update them or remove and re-install them. The next step is to install all your available updates, if some don't want to install it is ok, just install those you can. Then in your update manager to go to edit and choose to upgrade to Mint 19.2. If it is not there, refresh your update manager, install the updates, if any appear and then try to upgrade, by following the upgrade wizard. Lastly, run the optional command, (step 4 below), mine was already correct, but if you need to install or remove apps according to this command, please do that. Reboot your system then and you will have Linux Mint 19.2! Enjoy!
