How to install LibreOffice 6.4.2 on a Chromebook

Today we are looking at how to install LibreOffice 6.4.2 or the newest version on a Chromebook as a Flatpak! We created a video for a visual guide as well as an audio guide.  We hope that you will find it helpful.  Please find the instructions below to install LibreOffice, it is the same as those which we used in the video.

The fonts look a bit strange, but nothing major at least for me, you can see how it looks at the end of the video.  There is another installation guide, slightly more difficult but it looks perfect, has a look here.

Please let us know if you need any assistance!

Please take note that with the release of Chrome OS 90,  the location of Linux Apps has been changed in the Chromebook’s settings.  Have a look at this tutorial, to see how to turn on Linux apps and then continue with the installation tutorial.

Update: with the release of Chrome OS 96, the Linux container on a Chromebook has been upgraded to a newer version.  Because of this, we need to run one additional command for the application to work, we added it to the list of commands.

Instructions:
1) sudo apt update
2) sudo apt install flatpak
3) sudo flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
4) sudo flatpak install flathub org.libreoffice.LibreOffice
5) sudo chown root:root /usr/bin/bwrap && sudo chmod u+s /usr/bin/bwrap
