How to install Runescape on a Chromebook

Today we are looking at how to install Runescape on a Chromebook.  Please follow the video/audio guide as a tutorial where we explain the process step by step and use the commands below.

Runescape is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG),  it is a fantasy game with good and evil characters.  If you wonder if the game is for you, please search for reviews online and decide for yourself.

Please take note that with the release of Chrome OS 90,  the location of Linux Apps has been changed in the Chromebook’s settings.  Have a look at this tutorial, to see how to turn on Linux apps and then continue with the installation tutorial.

Update: with the release of Chrome OS 96, the Linux container on a Chromebook has been upgraded to a newer version.  Because of this, we need to run one additional command for the application to work, we added it to the list of commands.

Instructions:
1) sudo apt update
2) sudo apt install flatpak
3) sudo flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
4) sudo flatpak install flathub com.jagex.RuneScape
5) sudo chown root:root /usr/bin/bwrap && sudo chmod u+s /usr/bin/bwrap

Update:  In Chrome OS 83 Linux Apps has an option now, not seen in this video as it was recorded before Chrome OS 83, to choose a username for your Linux Apps,  it is completely optional and you can just press on the install option to continue, as seen in the video.  Please send us a comment on YouTube if you need assistance!
