Today we are looking at how to install Python 3.9 on a Chromebook.  Please follow the video/audio guide as a tutorial where we explain the process step by step and use the commands below.

If you have any questions, please contact us via a YouTube comment and we would be happy to assist you!

Please take note that with the release of Chrome OS 90,  the location of Linux Apps has been changed in the Chromebook’s settings.  Have a look at this tutorial, to see how to turn on Linux apps and then continue with the installation tutorial.

If you try to install additional Python packages or dependencies and encounter any errors, please run the first 3 commands again, install the packages you need, and afterward the 5th and the 6th command again.

Please take note that we updated the 4th command, due to backend updates.

Commands Used:
1) sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list sources.list
2) sudo echo deb sid main  | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
3) sudo apt update
4) sudo apt install libcrypt1 -y && sudo apt install python3 python3-pip build-essential libssl-dev libffi-dev python3-dev -y
