How to install Discord Desktop Application on a Chromebook

Update: with the release of Chrome OS 96, the Linux container on a Chromebook has been upgraded to a newer version.  That also changed the way to install Discord.  Here is a new guide.

Today we are looking at how to install Discord Desktop Application on a Chromebook.  Please follow the video/audio guide as a tutorial where we explain the process step by step and use the commands below.

If Discord does not work for some reason, you can use the browser version as well.

Update:  Since the release of Chrome OS 84, it is no longer required to enable the microphone setting as it has been brought to the stable channel.  you can just go to the system settings, to the Linux apps section (as seen in the video), and enable audio input for Linux apps.

Please take note that with the release of Chrome OS 90,  the location of Linux Apps has been changed in the Chromebook’s settings.  Have a look at this tutorial, to see how to turn on Linux apps and then continue with the installation tutorial.

Command Used:
1) sudo apt update

Please take note that these links are no longer required, as Chrome OS matured since creating this video.
