How to install Discord on a Chromebook in 2021 - Desktop version

Update: with the release of Chrome OS 96, the Linux container on a Chromebook has been upgraded to a newer version.  That also changed the way to install Discord.  Here is a new guide.

Today we are looking at how to install Discord, the desktop version, on a Chromebook.  Please follow the video/audio guide as a tutorial where we explain the process step by step and use the commands below.

This tutorial will only work on Chromebooks with an Intel or AMD CPU (with Linux Apps Support) and not those with an ARM64 architecture CPU.

If you have any questions, please contact us via a YouTube comment and we would be happy to assist you!

You can also download the mobile version on your Chromebook from here:

Please take note that your camera and screen sharing wont work, if you need these functions, please use the play store version or the browser.

Please take note that with the release of Chrome OS 90,  the location of Linux Apps has been changed in the Chromebook’s settings.  Have a look at this tutorial, to see how to turn on Linux apps and then continue with the installation tutorial.

Commands Used:
1) sudo apt update
